How to Choose a Siemens SITOP Power Supply (SITOP PSU100M vs. PSU8200)

By Jordan Anwar Est.

Choosing the right Siemens SITOP power supply comes down to three questions: what voltage do you need, how much current does your load draw, and does your application require buffering or redundancy.

SITOP PSU100M: the standard 24 V supply

SITOP PSU100M is the entry-level 24 V DC supply for standard control cabinets. It delivers single-phase 24 V output, and is a reliable choice for PLCs, sensors, and relays where you simply need clean, regulated power. It is compact, easy to install on a DIN rail, and covers the most common 5 A to 20 A range used in machine control.

SITOP PSU8200: wide-range input and stability

SITOP PSU8200 is the advanced series. It adds wide-range input (120/230 V AC and DC), an integrated extra-wide margin that keeps output stable during dips, and a much higher overload reserve. If your line voltage is unstable, or if motors and contactors in the same cabinet cause voltage sags, the PSU8200 holds 24 V DC longer.

How to size your power supply

A common rule is to size the supply for at least 120% of your steady-state load, so the unit never runs at its limit. If your application includes DC motors or solenoid valves that draw inrush current, give yourself more headroom or add a buffer module.

For availability-critical plants, SITOP redundancy modules (such as the PSE202U) allow two supplies to feed the same load with isolation, so a single supply failure does not stop the line.
