D2 Steel is a high carbon and chromium steel to provide various features such as: speed, resistance wear, improved toughness, and, air hardening, heat treatable to 60-62 Rc. To harden D2 steel, slowly to 1350°-1450°F and hold at this temperature until the material is uniformly heated. it could be known in other names for example: Tools steel, cold work metal, Knife steel.
Knife steel is by chromium enhancement, this make it commonly called semi-stainless steel. Its Chromium content is in the 11% to 13% range, which puts it just a hair under the firm limit of 13% needed to be considered truly stainless.
Due to its valuable features, D2 steel is mostly used in applications where hardness and speed are needed, such as spin, as knife steel, spin, shipping, automobile, and engineering industries, stamping or Forming Dies, Knives, slitters, shear blades and much more.
